(Formerly “Radical Integrity”)
Have dignity. Be polite. Expect respect on the terms that you give it.
Open. Work hard. Have a little faith –
if not in god, then in humans,
if not in humans, then in children.
Look. Don’t be afraid to be seen.
Don’t look away from what you don’t yet know how to look at.
You cannot be flaws, but you will always have flaws.
Loving them, like loving yourself, is a choice.
The language of deserving has no place in the discussion of suffering.
There is such a thing as right use of power –
when you meet people who carry it, join their team,
hold them accountable. Claim the power that’s yours –
if you’re doing it right, you and everyone you know will be empowered by association.
Laugh when you fall.
Laugh when you win.
Laugh ’til it hurts.
And when the laughter stops, as you find that first full breath,
remember that you belong to a species with a sixth sense:
Humanity asks but one thing of you:
come back to us.
Wherever you’re going,
come back to us alive.
